About Amanda
Self taught throughout her childhood, it was not until her senior year of high school that she took her first official photography class. She continued her photography education through her college years, and graduated from Augustana College in 1999. Several years later, Amanda finally realized her passion. She displayed and sold her photographs as an emerging artist in the summer of 2006, and has participated in many fine art festivals since.
Amanda was trained in Black & White wet darkroom techniques. With the advent of digital photography, Amanda has embraced technology and now exclusively shoots digitally and utilizes the digital darkroom. Amanda’s photography style demonstrates classic camera skills along with current image manipulation techniques. She enjoys working with different lighting, producing in-camera special effects, and digitally manipulating photographs. Her most unique ideas are demonstrated through her photographic collages. In these pieces, she photographs subjects in small pieces, processes the images, then manually pieces them back together to create an abstract and unique work of art.

Amanda Murphy was born and raised in Elk Grove Village, IL. Her passion for photography was awakened at the age of 8 when her grandmother gave her an old camera to play with. As a child she had interests in many of the arts, music and sports, but photography was always at the forefront.
